About the Role
Baker Tilly is seeking a State & Local Tax Senior Manager with a consulting focus to join their growing SALT practice. This role involves advising middle market and Fortune 500 companies on complex state and local tax challenges, expanding leadership experience, and honing consulting skills. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to a fast-growing, entrepreneurial practice within a firm that values specialty tax and invests in employee success.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by providing strategic state and local tax compliance and consulting services.
- Manage multi-disciplinary, multi-state reviews to identify optimal filing options, exemptions, deductions, credits, and incentives.
- Research state and local tax issues, including nexus determinations and taxability analyses.
- Counsel clients on state and local tax controversies, including audits and responses to notices.
- Plan and execute tax projects, including due diligence and voluntary disclosure projects.
- Prepare technical memoranda on state and local tax issues.
- Maintain active communication with clients and recommend business and process improvements.
- Manage staff and seniors on consulting engagements, ensuring client profitability targets are met.
- Network and build strong relationships internally and externally.
- Invest in professional development through firm-wide and external programs.
- Support the growth and development of team members through the Baker Tilly Care and Teach philosophy.
Requirements
- 4-year degree required.
- CPA or Law License required.
- Eight (8) + year(s) experience in state and local tax.
- Professional services firm experience required.
- Ability to lead and supervise others.
- Ability to provide exceptional client service.
- Commitment to continuous learning.
- Ability to see the "big picture" as well as the details.
- Appropriate ethical knowledge and commitment.
- Sense of urgency and commitment to quality and timely project completion.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S., without sponsorship, highly preferred.
