Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of landscape specialists, some with disabilities, to maintain the grounds of West Point Prep Academy.
  • Perform groundskeeping using mowers and hand-powered equipment.
  • Operate equipment including tool cats, backhoe, sanders, and plow vehicles.
  • Trim shrubs and trees, mulch, seed, and sweep walkways.
  • Prune trees, cut limbs, use a chainsaw, water and maintain shrubbery, and power wash outdoor areas.
  • Groom fields using power groomers and tool cats.
  • Plow snow, handle call-ins during storms, and prepare winter equipment.
  • Supervise workers on spreading salt and using snow blowing equipment.
  • Maintain daily contact regarding grounds and worker issues.
  • Maintain inventories of tools, equipment, and stock.
  • Drive work vehicles for repair, inspection, and maintenance.
  • Keep trucks and equipment fueled and ready.
  • Meet with supervisor on day-to-day issues.
  • Meet with vendors and contractors.
  • Assist custodial supervisor during off-duty or downtime, including barracks reset and support during rain.
  • Supervise custodial workers when their supervisor is off.
  • Guide the team while supporting custodial with barracks reset.
  • Support custodial staff inside during inclement weather with their daily functions.
  • Drive in inclement weather.

Requirements

  • Able to obtain quotes and bids for jobs from vendors.
  • Strong organization skills with accurate attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task.
  • Able to adapt and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sufficient skills to communicate effectively with system users regarding technical and business issues.
  • Must have a professional appearance.
  • Must lead by example.
  • Must be capable to move throughout the workday and follow people served throughout the community.
  • Work alongside co-workers within 3 feet.
  • Work well with others and in a team.
  • Occasional lifting of 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to physically operate heavy landscaping equipment in a safe manner.
