About the Role

Alto Software Group is seeking a passionate Data Platform Engineer to scale the data lakehouse that powers analytics and AI, build infrastructure for new data commercialisation products, and create reusable building blocks for engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing operational support and build new solutions for our data lakehouse, scaling it to serve internal analytics and AI use cases.
• Build the infrastructure and business logic behind new data commercialisation opportunities, partnering with product and commercial teams.
• Design and build abstractions, blueprints, and reusable templates for safe and consistent data handling by service and analytics teams.
• Modernise the legacy monolithic SQL Server database by extracting data, introducing retention policies, and migrating to modern SQL frameworks.
• Write ETL processes and contribute to data modelling for internal analytics and external-facing data products.
• Take ownership of work from design to deployment, independently or collaboratively.
• Help shape engineering practices and explore new working methods to deliver value to internal customers efficiently.

Requirements

• A data or platform engineer with strong Python skills.
• Track record of building data infrastructure that other engineers and analysts depend on.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and Terraform.
• Comfort with infrastructure-as-code as the default way of working.
• Experience with a modern lakehouse or warehouse platform (Databricks ideally, or Snowflake/BigQuery).
• Experience with data ingestion and transformation tools (Fivetran/DBT).
• Familiarity with Kafka or similar streaming systems.
• Solid SQL skills and a good sense for data modelling.
• Awareness of container orchestration (ECS, Kubernetes) and how data workloads run in production.
• A platform mindset: enjoy building tools, templates, and paved roads for other engineers.
