About the Role
The Deputy Commissioner of Social Services assists the Commissioner in policy formation and departmental operations, acting in the Commissioner's absence and overseeing subordinate staff.
Responsibilities
- Assists in developing and implementing policies and procedures for the administration of departmental operations
- Coordinates and supervises various intra-agency functions and operations
- Assists in the preparation of the departmental budget and the maintenance of fiscal controls
- Assists the Commissioner in the application and enforcement of agency policies and procedures
- Acts for and in behalf of the Commissioner in the Commissioner's absence
- Coordinates various policies with State, Federal and other County Departments
Requirements
- Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and six (6) years of full-time paid experience in a health, education or social service agency, four (4) years of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity
- Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree and six (6) years of experience in an administrative or management position where there is responsibility for planning, directing and coordinating the work of a substantial staff working in several units or performing several separate functions
- Post graduate education in social work, public administration, hospital administration, educational administration, or business administration shall be the equivalent, on a year-for-year basis up to two years, of the prescribed experience (excluding administrative or supervisory experience)
- All appointments must be approved by the State Commissioner of Social Services
