About the Role

Performs engineering duties necessary for the completion of the department’s goals, with progression towards more autonomous work performance as experience is gained in electric line design. This position may supervise Intern employees.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general engineering functions in the design and operation of electric distribution and transmission facilities.
  • Designs line extensions to provide electric service to new large-scale commercial and industrial customers.
  • Redesigns existing electrical facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial customers due to load or system changes, building additions, or other construction activities.
  • Performs engineering design of reinforcement projects, street lighting projects, and preventative maintenance and system power factor improvement projects.
  • Performs engineering design and layout of electric facility adjustments as required for highway improvement projects, sewer projects, and other municipal improvement projects.

Requirements

  • An electrical engineering degree from a school with a program accredited by ABET is required for Engineer I, II, and III.
  • Electrical engineering design experience is preferred for Engineer I.
  • A minimum of two years of electric transmission and/or distribution design experience is required for Engineer II.
  • In lieu of an electrical engineering degree for Engineer II, consideration may be given to individuals with an engineering degree in another discipline, and a minimum of four years of recent progressively responsible design experience.
  • A valid certificate in Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) is required for Engineer II.
  • A minimum of four years of recent progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design experience is required for Engineer III.
  • In lieu of an electrical engineering degree for Engineer III, consideration may be given to individuals with an engineering degree in another discipline, and a minimum of six years of recent progressively responsible design experience.
  • A valid Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required for Engineer III and IV.
  • A minimum of eight years of recent applicable and progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design OR a minimum of three years of recent progressively responsible electric transmission/distribution design and a minimum of seven years of other recent applicable and progressively responsible design experience is required for Engineer IV.
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, and close visual acuity to operate a computer is required.
  • Candidates must be able to work effectively with diverse groups and adapt to evolving technologies and systems.
  • Employee must remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times and maintain the ability to respond to changing circumstances in a timely manner.

Skills

  • Experience with or the ability to obtain AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts and practices.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate technical work.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Work under pressure and meet close deadlines.

  • Engineer I Minimum: $1,415.81/ week
  • Engineer I Midpoint: $1,769.76
  • Engineer II Minimum: $1,618.87/ week
  • Engineer II Midpoint: $2,023.60
  • Engineer III Minimum: $1,851.10/ week
  • Engineer III Midpoint: $2,313.86
  • Engineer IV Minimum: $2,075.10/ week
  • Engineer IV Midpoint: $2,645.75
