About the Role

Responsibilities
- Facilitate the provision of safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware patient care.
- Perform clerical and receptionist functions including computer order entry and data retrieval.
- Maintain unit supplies, transport supplies, equipment, and patient medications.
- Prepare and maintain patient charts.
- Provide customer service and act as the central communication source on the nursing unit.
- Protect patient rights and dignity at all times.
- Maintain paper medical records and scan documents into the electronic medical record.
- Resolve patient concerns and proactively offer assistance.
- Answer telephone calls and patient call lights, communicating patient needs to the healthcare team.
- Facilitate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Track bed activity and notify housekeeping of patient discharges.
- Assist in unit flow management during code situations.
- Facilitate patient direct admissions.
- Monitor data entry for key patient safety information.
- Support initiatives of the healthcare team and participate in interdisciplinary rounds.
- Perform charge reconciliation and staffing reconciliation.
- Complete and submit supply requisitions, accept and stock deliveries.
- Place orders for durable medical equipment.
- Participate in unit performance improvement initiatives.
- Transport unit supplies, patient care supplies, medications, and equipment.
- Use effective written and oral communication skills with patients, staff, physicians, family, and visitors.
- Place physician and ancillary consults.
- Maintain computer and other related IT equipment, reporting malfunctions.
- Act as a liaison between patients and diagnostic areas, communicating anticipated times for tests/procedures.
- Serve as a unit super user for electronic documentation and facilitate data recovery during downtime.
- Communicate patient care concerns, problems, or emergencies to the RN.
- Provide a safe environment for unit operations.
- Ensure consistent use of appropriate hand hygiene.
- Keep patient rooms and unit areas clean and free of clutter.
- Follow appropriate PPE/Infection control policies.
- Reinforce the importance of universal precautions with patients and their families.
- Operate Xenex machines after patient discharge.
- Perform environment of care rounds.
- Comply with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Less than 1 year of clinical experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
