About the Role
The Medical Assistant (MA) assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician and/or mid-level provider, providing information, services, and assistance.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients, introduce self, and escort to exam room.
- Verify patient information, medical history, medications, and confirm purpose of visit.
- Interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information on patients' charts.
- Draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients.
- Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records.
- Complete diagnostic and procedure coding as required/needed.
- Counsel patients by transmitting physician's orders and questions about surgery.
- Schedule surgeries by making arrangements with the surgical center, verifying times with patients, and preparing necessary forms.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
- Practice safe habits including infection control and lifting procedures.
- Present a professional image and customer focus.
- Practice teamwork by helping others willingly and communicating professionally.
- Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
- Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.
- Serve and protect the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local requirements.
- Enhance practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value.
- Operate standard office equipment.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Adhere to Advanced Pain Care’s Policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Requires a high school diploma or GED.
- One or more years’ experience preferred.
- Clear and precise communication.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail.
- Effectively manage day by organizing and prioritizing.
- Possess excellent phone and customer service skills and abilities.
- Protect patient information and maintain confidentiality.
- Knowledge of general medical terminology.
- Organizational skills and ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.

- Must be able to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to bend, stoop and stretch.
- Must be able to lift and move boxes and other items weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment.
