About the Role

The Academic Standards & Integrity Specialist plays a vital role in promoting academic excellence and integrity across the IBU community. This position provides leadership and expertise in implementing grade appeals and academic integrity policies, procedures, best practices, and educational supports to ensure a consistent institutional approach. The role involves educating and advising students, faculty, and staff, and supporting the University's response to AI's impact on academic standards.

Responsibilities

  • Apply Grade Appeal Policy and respond to student/faculty inquiries.
  • Apply Academic Integrity Policy and respond to student/faculty inquiries.
  • Consult with the Academic Standards and Integrity Subcommittee for case resolution.
  • Coordinate and facilitate inquiry sessions with faculty and students.
  • Support ongoing work to ensure Consent for BCOM.
  • Develop an integrated institutional strategy for grade appeals and academic integrity.
  • Act as a resource for instructors and relevant working groups on student cases.
  • Provide information, education, support, and training on Turnitin or alternatives.
  • Research, report, and recommend alternative methods, technology, or tools.
  • Liaise with other institutions and external groups to share knowledge.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain educational resources and supports.
  • Gather, review, and analyze metrics on incidents and educational supports.
  • Provide reports and analysis to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate to evaluate initiative effectiveness and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Investigate student misconduct and make recommendations on penalties.
  • Conduct meetings with students for case investigation and resolution.
  • Ensure student discipline practices are consistent with University policies.
  • Maintain records on policies related to grade appeals, academic integrity, and student discipline.
  • Initiate and maintain case files in the internal database.
  • Liaise with the Registrar’s Office to manage student records.
  • Prepare, issue, and distribute allegation letters and discipline summaries.
  • Update the university system/database with case details.
  • Maintain a secure internal database.
  • Coordinate registration of students into academic integrity workshops.
  • Maintain up-to-date allegation and summary letter templates.
  • Follow up with students on outstanding resolution items.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of university policies and records.
  • Review student records for validation of integrity statements in applications.
  • Represent the institution at meetings of the Academic Integrity Council of Ontario.
  • Oversee the implementation and operation of the Academic Standards & Integrity online course.
  • Assist with quality assurance tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or other relevant advanced degree with demonstrated experience in academic integrity, student affairs and services, student conduct.
  • 3-5 years relevant professional experience.
  • Teaching experience in an academic institution preferred.
  • Mediation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Prior experience with grade appeals and academic integrity procedures and supports.
  • Experience supporting faculty governance structures and University legislation.
  • Experience drafting original reports is strongly preferred.
  • Previous exposure to, and understanding of, the complexities and diversities of a private university is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of academic integrity principles.
  • Knowledge of various university academic policy and procedures and best practices.
  • Experience designing online learning for co-curricular and curricular student learning via an LMS or course authoring applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build strong collaborative relationships.
  • Excellent oral, written (specifically report writing) and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills required to problem solve.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with multiple changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and OneDrive.
