About the Role

You will provide support and assistance to four young people living at Leyton Green Road, attending to their practical, physical, and emotional needs. You will act as an appropriate role model, working closely with them to address difficulties and achieve their optimum potential. Your role includes ensuring the care and welfare of each child, guiding them and their families in care planning by considering their wishes and seeking their opinions. You will offer support that meets and exceeds The Care Act and the Children and Families Act (2014), raising concerns with the Registered Manager as appropriate. The aim is to safeguard children and young people, provide a good standard of living, promote their wellbeing, and account for all their wishes, thoughts, feelings, and preferences. Ultimately, the goal is to provide a safe, loving environment for young people to develop and achieve, leading to as independent a life as possible.

Responsibilities

  • Each shift thoroughly planned prior to and after handover, with detailed and allocated tasks set to each person on duty using the shift planner.
  • Children and young people are supported with personal care, considering their dignity and respect.
  • Children and young people’s medication is administered in line with the medication policy.
  • Young people are encouraged and supported to attend education and in any home learning projects.
  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals, as well as shopping and other domestic tasks, with meals planned weekly considering children's choices, preferences, and dietary needs.
  • Ensure that children and young people are encouraged and supported to take part in activities, including developing independence skills at an appropriate level.

Requirements

  • English and Math Qualification
  • Relevant NVQ 3 qualification
  • Ideally hold a minimum Level 3 in Children’s Residential care or equivalent (required to work towards it within 2 years if not held)
  • Knowledge and experience of working with children and young people with learning disabilities and complex needs.
  • Knowledge of a range of legislation and policy frameworks in relation to children and young people.
  • Experience of working with children and families with specific, multiple, and complex needs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of families from a range of cultures and communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of partnership working.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • Proven initiative and judgement to identify and resolve problems.
  • Good ICT skills - both standard Microsoft applications and specialist systems.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, using problem-solving skills and initiative to provide a customer-focused support service.
  • Excellent levels of literacy and numeracy.
  • Ability to work flexibly, balancing competing priorities and meeting deadlines whilst understanding the needs, timescales, and deadlines of others.
  • Ideally the successful candidate will hold a full clean driving license and be prepared to drive the home's minibus (not essential).
