About the Role
The Project Engineer is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of multiple capital, infrastructure, process, packaging, utilities, and safety projects across the Minto Ice Cream manufacturing site. The role leads the full project lifecycle from concept development and business case preparation through engineering design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operational handover, partnering closely with various internal teams and external contractors.
Responsibilities
- Lead multiple engineering CapEx projects across manufacturing process, packaging, utilities, safety, and infrastructure simultaneously.
- Develop business cases, project scopes, budgets, schedules, and execution plans.
- Manage the Minto Capital Plan and align investment priorities with business objectives.
- Deliver projects safely, on time in full (OTIF), within budget, and to agreed performance outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with SHE, GMP, food safety, hygiene, engineering standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead risk management, contractor management, and project governance processes.
- Manage project expenditure, forecasts, cost savings, and value delivery.
- Provide technical leadership and collaborate effectively across Operations, Maintenance, SUIT, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance, and Engineering teams.
- Drive standardisation, continuous improvement, EEM Pillar, and Ice Cream Manufacturing System (ICMS) practices.
- Analyse manufacturing, asset, and supply chain data to identify and implement improvement opportunities.
- Improve plant reliability, asset performance, capacity, efficiency, and operational effectiveness.
- Support sustainability initiatives, including energy, waste, water, and carbon reduction in project design.
- Lead supplier, contractor, and stakeholder engagement, including technical negotiations.
- Oversee FATs, SAT, commissioning, validation, and successful handover of new assets and systems.
- Promote asset care plans, lifecycle management, and engineering best practices across the site.
Requirements
- Experience in capital project management and manufacturing operations (5+ years).
- Ability to operate confidently in FMCG and industrial manufacturing environments with a strong focus on safety, quality, compliance, and operational excellence.
- Strong skills in project delivery and capital project management, including leading projects from concept design and business case development through to commissioning, handover, and operational integration.
- Strong skills in manufacturing, utilities, automation, and asset management, with the ability to optimise production performance, reliability, maintenance strategies, and engineering systems.
- Strong skills in financial management and business case development, including budgeting, cost control, capital planning, forecasting, cost optimisation, and investment evaluation.
- Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and influencing, with proven ability to build effective relationships and collaborate with senior leaders, operational teams, suppliers, contractors, and external partners.
- Strong skills in continuous improvement and operational excellence, applying Lean Manufacturing, TPM, IMS, and data-driven methodologies to improve efficiency, productivity, quality, and business performance.
- Strong skills in risk management, safety, and compliance, ensuring adherence to GMP, food safety, quality, engineering, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a strong safety culture.
- Strong skills in leadership and cross-functional team management, successfully coordinating multidisciplinary teams to deliver outcomes, manage competing priorities, and achieve project and operational objectives.
- Strong skills in analytical problem-solving and decision-making, leveraging operational data and business insights to identify opportunities, resolve complex challenges, and drive sustainable improvements.
- Strong skills in strategic planning and performance improvement, with a focus on long-term asset value, sustainability, operational effectiveness, and organisational growth.
- Strong skills in communication, presentation, and negotiation, effectively conveying technical and commercial information to diverse audiences and securing stakeholder alignment on key initiatives.
