About the Role
MongoDB Technical Services Engineers advise customers and solve complex MongoDB problems using outstanding problem-solving, customer service, and deep technical experience. Engineers in the Infrastructure team specialize in automation, backup, performance, and security for mission-critical deployments, with additional expertise in advanced areas like Search, Vector Search, auto-embedding, event-driven, and agentic workloads. The role involves guiding customers on data and database strategies, resolving complex issues related to architecture, performance, recovery, and security, and acting as an expert resource for running MongoDB at scale. Engineers also advocate for customer needs with product and development teams, contribute to internal tools and automation, and share knowledge through documentation, training, and mentoring.
Responsibilities
- Advise customers and solve complex MongoDB problems.
- Provide expertise in automation, backup, performance, and security for mission-critical deployments.
- Specialize in advanced technology areas such as Search, Vector Search, auto-embedding, event-driven and agentic workloads.
- Guide customers on data and database strategies for their specific use cases and architectural needs.
- Resolve customer questions on architecture, performance, recovery, security, and related topics.
- Serve as an expert resource on standard methodologies for running MongoDB at scale.
- Act as an advocate for customer needs, working with product management and development teams.
- Contribute to internal projects, including software development of support tools for performance, benchmarking, and diagnostics.
- Enable peers by sharing newly gained technical knowledge through informal conversations, training, and workshops.
- Document solutions in the knowledge platform to increase efficiency for customers, team members, and other departments.
- Contribute to internal tools and automation, including AI-assisted diagnostics, performance analysis, and knowledge discovery.
- Share learned knowledge by writing knowledge base articles, delivering training and workshops, and mentoring new team members.
- Explore and teach new product capabilities across the MongoDB ecosystem.
Requirements
- 5+ years of proven experience.
- Self-taught, insatiably curious, and multi-faceted individuals are considered.
- Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters, and troubleshooting.
- Good understanding of core Kubernetes concepts, including containers, namespaces, custom resources, and multi-cluster deployments.
- Good understanding of Networking concepts and protocols (DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, etc.).
- Storage engineering experience, including NAS, SAN, SSD, multi-pathing, and caching.
- Experience building and maintaining complex mission-critical production database systems.
- Broad awareness of customer workloads and use cases, including performance, availability, and scalability.
- Experience analyzing issues holistically, from the application tier through the database, down to the storage.
- Ability to read code and basic coding/scripting ability in one or more languages: Java, Python, Ruby, C, C++, C#, Javascript, node.js, Go, etc.
- Desire and ability to rapidly learn a wide variety of new technical skills.
- Genuine desire to help people.
- Ability to think on your feet and remain calm under pressure while solving problems in real-time.
- Willingness and ability to get help from team members when required, and good judgment to know when to seek help.
- Prior experience with MongoDB is not required.
