About the Role

Herzog Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Crewman (Operator/Laborer) responsible for physical labor and assisting in the installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of train control systems and grade crossing warning device equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the installation and repair of railroad signal and communication structures and components.
• Constructs forms and foundations for signal equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Lubricates moving parts on mechanical equipment such as switch machines.
• Sets up barricades to isolate potentially dangerous situations.
• Prepares and paints signal equipment.
• Installs, inspects, tests, repairs, and maintains signal, train control, and electrical equipment.
• Provides contractor support as directed.
• Loads and unloads supplies, digs holes and trenches for cable, climbs poles and signal masts.
• Handles cable and wire to make electrical connections.
• Uses non-power tools (shovels, picks, axes, sledgehammers); high precision measuring tools (micrometers, voltmeters, amp meters, recorders); hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, tape measurers); power tools (drills, wrenches, power saws).
• Cleans and maintains work areas.
• Is on-call and prepared to travel at a moment's notice.
• Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors.
• Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
• Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
• Must pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
• Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
• Regularly lift up to 75 pounds of weight, up to an end height of 36 inches for a distance of up to 10 feet.
• Regularly lift up to 50 pounds of weight, up to an end height of 48 inches for a distance of up to 10 feet.
• Regularly carry weight up to 16 pounds for a distance of up to 100 feet.
• Regularly push/pull a force up to 25 pounds for up to eight minutes continuously.
• Regularly grasp/squeeze equipment or tools with a force up to 40 pounds.
• Regularly ascend and descend a 10 step ladder with up to 25 pounds.
• Frequently climb on/off equipment.
• Regularly ascend/descend a step with a height of 28 inches from the floor.
• Regularly kneel, bend, squat for extended periods of time.
• Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
• Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
• Available to work a 40 hour work week subject to overtime, on call and alternate shifts that may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.
• Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
• Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
• Report any and all safety violations to your immediate supervisor.
