About the Role

Mott MacDonald is seeking an enthusiastic and talented Senior Drainage Engineer to join their team in Vancouver, Calgary, or Toronto. This role involves leading the planning, design, and delivery of complex transportation-related water resource projects, serving as a subject matter expert in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and mentoring junior staff. Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and delivery of complex transportation-related water resource projects for public and private sector clients.
  • Support multi-disciplinary projects or programs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert of hydrologic and hydraulic modelling for transportation corridors.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of engineering designs, technical reports, specifications, quantities, cost estimates, and contract documents.
  • Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and analysis tasks utilizing software such as PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, InfoWorks ICM, and Visual OTTHYMO.
  • Develop Erosion Sediment Control planning and LID design standards.
  • Mentor, coach, and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate engineers, designers, and other project team members.
  • Support project managers with project planning, resourcing, scope management, budgeting, scheduling, and risk mitigation activities.
  • Apply monitored and statistical data to models to simulate return-period and continuous scenarios, and to calibrate and validate results.
  • Lead conceptual and detailed design of drainage and/or stormwater management infrastructure.
  • Support business development initiatives, including proposal preparation, client relationship management, and identifying opportunities for future work.
  • Provide engineering judgment and practical solutions to complex technical challenges while maintaining project objectives and client expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; a Master's degree is considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada and in good standing.
  • 10-15 years’ relevant experience with a proven track record in large-scale provincial and municipal infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency with water resources tools is a must, such as Visual OTTHYMO, PCSWMM, and HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, InfoWorks ICM, HY8 & CulvertMaster.
  • Experience with pipe modeling in Civil3D and ORD and familiarity with ArcGIS would be an asset.
  • Strong understanding of municipal, provincial, and industry design standards, regulations, and approval processes.
  • Experience with Metro Vancouver, ATEC, MTO, Metrolinx, Translink and PACT would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing technical reports, engineering studies, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop engineers and technical staff.
  • Excellent client relationship, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities with experience managing multiple priorities and project deadlines.
  • Experience supporting proposal development, business development, and strategic growth initiatives is considered an asset.
