About the Role

Seeking an enthusiastic, curious, and flexible Design and Teacher for our Upper School to teach a full-time course load. The successful candidate will demonstrate innovation, collaboration, and engagement in teaching, with an eagerness to work with diverse learners. An interest in real-world learning experiences and cultural competency is essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and implement course objectives, lesson plans, outlines, and assessment pieces following IB and College guidelines.
• Employ best practices for teaching high school students, including inquiry-based learning, scaffolding, and differentiated instruction.
• Create an inclusive and welcoming classroom atmosphere.
• Establish a positive classroom environment that enables diverse students to flourish.
• Communicate regularly on student progress with faculty, administrators, and parents.
• Use technology to enhance learning and support student organization.
• Collaboratively create engaging assessments and provide meaningful feedback.
• Stay updated on subject area developments and adjust instructional plans accordingly.
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and conferences.
• Actively engage with students in their advising group to support their growth.
• Understand the academic, physical, and personal profiles of each advisee.
• Emulate the College's values: Learning, Community, Wellbeing, Service, and Pluralism.
• Serve as a link between the school and families on academic and non-academic matters.
• Meet with advisees during advising sessions and deliver the advising curriculum.
• Write advising comments on reports and communicate formally and informally with parents.
• Lead co-curricular activities with skill, passion, and enthusiasm.
• Actively participate in school life, including graduation and extracurricular events.

Requirements

• University degree.
• Relevant teaching or related work experience.
• Experience with the MYP IB program is an asset.
• Commitment to including diversity in lessons and the contributions of BIPOC and 2SLQBTQIA+.
• Commitment to engaging with all aspects of the design program, including design thinking and technical skills.
• Commitment to learning and exploring new tools collaboratively.
• Experience with basic principles of programming, computer-aided design, and digital media tools.
• High proficiency in at least one of programming, CAD, or digital media is required.
• Experience with design thinking is an asset.
• Experience with Adobe Suite.
• Experience with Fusion software is an asset.
• Experience with Python and Java is an asset.
• Experience with similar programming languages is an asset.
• Experience with HTML, CSS, and Javascript is an asset.
• Experience with 3D printing workflow is an asset.
