About the Role

Hospitality and Racing is establishing a modern data function to support regulatory excellence, evidence-based decision-making and responsible innovation. This role will lead the implementation of the future-state data environment and build the necessary technical capability. It offers an opportunity to shape the data architecture, governance framework, and engineering capability for a major NSW regulator, working with leaders and specialists to create trusted, scalable, and secure data products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the strategic data architecture roadmap for Hospitality and Racing.
  • Establish governance guardrails that enable innovation while ensuring data quality, security, privacy, and compliance.
  • Build and lead a high-performing technical team of architects, data engineers, and specialist practitioners.
  • Define architecture standards, patterns, and principles that support regulatory and reform priorities, and ensure sustainable organisation growth and reduce technical debt.
  • Drive best practice across data management, metadata, lineage, master data, and information governance.
  • Partner with executives and business leaders to translate complex business problems into practical technical solutions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve regulatory effectiveness by harnessing data and analytics.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision making.

Requirements

  • Experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale data architecture in a regulatory context.
  • Deep expertise across cloud data platforms, data engineering, data warehousing, and integration.
  • Demonstrated success building and developing capability in technical teams.
  • Strong experience establishing pragmatic governance guardrails that balance control with business enablement.
  • Strong understanding of data security, privacy, risk management, and regulatory environments.
  • The ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a way that creates confidence and understanding across both technical and non-technical audiences.

Salary/Compensations

  • $154,231 - $178,369 per annum plus superannuation
