About the Role

SimpleClosure is seeking an AI/ML Engineer to transform real-world assets acquired from company shutdowns into high-value AI-training products. This role involves identifying opportunities within inventory, building derivative works like reinforcement-learning environments and training datasets, and collaborating with buyers to meet their needs.

Responsibilities

• Identify opportunities within real-world assets (production codebases, workspaces, databases) to create high-value AI-training products such as RL environments, agentic task suites, evals, verifiers, benchmarks, and datasets.
• Design and build pipelines for asset transformation, including repository ingestion, test harnessing, commit mining, Docker/sandbox reproducibility, verifier/reward scripting, and QA tooling.
• Wrap real data in interactive environments (sandboxed application state, MCP servers, browser/Playwright layers) for agent training and evaluation.
• Identify commercial opportunities within the inventory by mapping assets to current AI lab and RLE demand and maximizing derivative product value.
• Prototype quickly and harden successful ideas into repeatable, scalable pipelines.
• Partner with the Asset Hub buyer/BD team and technical stakeholders at labs and RLE buyers to align product development with training needs.
• Handle sensitive materials (codebases, workspace exports, proprietary datasets) with a focus on security, privacy, licensing, and PII.
• Write clean, well-tested code, utilize AI tooling for efficiency, and collaborate with product, engineering, and the GM of Asset Hub.

Requirements

• RL-environments / AI-training background: experience building RL environments and/or products for model training or evaluation.
• 4–8 years of engineering experience, with significant time in the RL-environments, AI-training-data, or model-evaluation ecosystem.
• Strong Python skills.
• Experience with containers (Docker).
• Experience with CI/test infrastructure.
• Comfort building reproducible sandboxes from real-world code and data.
• Familiarity with LLM evaluation and agent harnesses (e.g., SWE-bench-style setups, Verifiers, HUD).
• Experience with verifier/reward design, including resistance to reward hacking.
• Builder’s temperament: ability to take projects from concept to production, work scrappily, and thrive in ambiguity.
• Clear communication skills to serve as a credible technical contact for researchers.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience building and managing a team of engineers is a plus.
• Contributions to public benchmarks or eval frameworks are a plus.
• Experience with post-training / fine-tuning data is a plus.
• Simulation or frontend skills (MCP, Playwright) for world-building are a plus.

• $140,000 - $200,000
