About the Role

Gradient Robotics is seeking an Electrical Engineer to own electrical hardware design from concept to working system. This end-to-end role involves partnering with mechanical and software teams to solve challenging instrumentation and controls problems, debug electronics, and develop firmware for robot control interfaces. The electronics designed will serve as the core nervous system for the company's robots, enabling faster team progress.

Responsibilities

  • Own electrical hardware design end-to-end, partnering with mechanical engineers on instrumentation and actuation solutions.
  • Build electronics systems using custom PCBs or off-the-shelf industrial components for machine reading and control.
  • Debug systems and write firmware to provide a solid control interface for the software team.
  • Research and develop solutions for challenging electrical instrumentation and controls problems.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation in a fast-iterating design environment.
  • Ensure compatibility across mechanical and software teams.
  • Design and debug industrial automation electronics and PCBs.

Requirements

  • Background in electrical controls engineering
  • PCB design experience
  • 1-4 years of electrical design experience (exceptional new grads with strong project or internship experience are welcome to apply)
  • An obsession with quality and a drive to see projects done well
  • Prior design work (products, internal projects, student teams, etc.)
  • Initiative, self-direction, creative problem-solving, and the ability to debug complex issues
  • Strong robotics and electrical generalist with a drive for continuous learning
  • Experience at a hardware, robotics, or industrial automation company
  • Firmware development experience (embedded C/C++, motor control, communication protocols)
  • Comfort using AI tools to multiply output
