About the Role
As a team member in our Alternative Investments practice, the Tax Manager will assist in providing tax compliance & consulting services to BDO’s Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients.
Responsibilities
- Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
- Ensures self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
- Prepares required filings (tax returns) using a system of review and documentation to ensure client compliance and minimize tax burden.
- Ensures all data needed for filing requirements are collected and properly communicates missing items.
- Utilizes Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in the tax preparation process.
- Effectively teams with Principal, Tax Seniors, and Associates on project completion.
- Delivers high quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services.
- Leads complex engagements with a team of tax professionals.
- Manages the engagement, including billing, collections, and project budgets.
- Builds and manages client relationships.
- Ensures and documents client work and conclusions in the client tax file.
- Other duties as required.
- Assist with identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies.
- Managing teams of Tax Seniors and Associates.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, preferred.
- Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred.
- Six (6) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, required.
- Prior supervisory experience, required.
- Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds including: Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds, preferred.
- Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships, preferred.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty, preferred.
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role, preferred.
- CFP or Masters in Tax, preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat, preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases, preferred.
- Proficient in tax compliance process software, preferred.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively delegate work as needed.
- Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skills.
- Capacity to work well in a team environment.
- Capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals.
- Ability to compose written tax advice.
- Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships.
- Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients.
