About the Role

As a team member in our Alternative Investments practice, the Tax Manager will assist in providing tax compliance & consulting services to BDO’s Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
  • Ensures self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
  • Prepares required filings (tax returns) using a system of review and documentation to ensure client compliance and minimize tax burden.
  • Ensures all data needed for filing requirements are collected and properly communicates missing items.
  • Utilizes Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in the tax preparation process.
  • Effectively teams with Principal, Tax Seniors, and Associates on project completion.
  • Delivers high quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services.
  • Leads complex engagements with a team of tax professionals.
  • Manages the engagement, including billing, collections, and project budgets.
  • Builds and manages client relationships.
  • Ensures and documents client work and conclusions in the client tax file.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Assist with identifying, developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective tax strategies.
  • Managing teams of Tax Seniors and Associates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics, preferred.
  • Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred.
  • Six (6) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience, required.
  • Prior supervisory experience, required.
  • Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds including: Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds, preferred.
  • Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships, preferred.
  • Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty, preferred.
  • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations), required.
  • Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role, preferred.
  • CFP or Masters in Tax, preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat, preferred.
  • Experience with tax research databases, preferred.
  • Proficient in tax compliance process software, preferred.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively delegate work as needed.
  • Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skills.
  • Capacity to work well in a team environment.
  • Capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals.
  • Ability to compose written tax advice.
  • Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships.
  • Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients.

  • Minnesota Range: $100,000 - $130,000
  • New Jersey Range: $130,000 - $165,000
  • NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $150,000 - $180,000
  • Virginia Range: $140,000 - $165,000
  • Washington Range: $130,000 - $145,000
  • Washington DC Range: $140,000 - $162,000
