About the Role

The Costume Performance team provides costume support to the artists of The Royal Ballet, the Royal Opera, and visiting companies. This role involves managing a small team of Dressers and collaborating with Technicians to ensure all dressing aspects meet the highest standards and align with the Designer’s vision. As a repertory house, the role often requires juggling two or more productions simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a small team of Dressers.
  • Work alongside Technicians to ensure all dressing aspects are executed to the highest of standards.
  • Ensure costumes are maintained, pristine, and set for all rehearsals and performances.
  • Juggle two or more productions at a time.

Requirements

  • Varied background in costume and large-scale show running.
  • Exceptional knowledge of backstage costume work and dressing techniques.
  • Understanding of fabrics, fibres, and associated laundering methods.
  • Motivation to work alone but sociability to be a great team player.
  • Desire to share knowledge with others.
  • Good MS Office experience.
  • Desire to learn the nuances surrounding costumes for opera and ballet.
  • Work authorization for the UK.

Skills

  • Sewing techniques, particularly repairs.
