About the Role
Join the Growth team at Discord as a Senior Software Engineer. This role focuses on enhancing how new users discover, understand, and engage with Discord, from initial web encounters through onboarding. You will build systems to scale user acquisition and activation, impacting how Discord grows.
Responsibilities
- Build and optimize user-facing experiences to improve user discovery, understanding, and onboarding.
- Develop scalable backend systems for dynamic, high-performance content delivery.
- Work across the full stack, including frontend (TypeScript, React) and backend (Python).
- Design and execute A/B experiments to measure user acquisition and activation impact.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, and Data Science to identify growth opportunities and iterate quickly.
- Maintain performance and reliability standards for user-facing properties.
- Write readable, reviewable code with future maintainability in mind.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping production web products.
- Strong expertise in TypeScript and React with a track record of delivering high-performance frontend experiences.
- Practical experience with Python and backend frameworks such as Flask.
- Experience designing and running A/B tests with a focus on data-driven decision making.
- Comfort working across the full stack and taking ownership of projects end to end.
- A habit of asking why before asking how, with the judgment to know when to ship.
- Prior experience on growth-focused engineering teams working on activation, onboarding, or acquisition (Bonus).
- Experience building SEO infrastructure, or interest in how LLMs and search engines index and surface web content (Bonus).
- Mobile development experience (Bonus).
