About the Role
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting for Raising The Village’s Canadian operations, safeguarding the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of its financial records and reporting. This role requires hands-on maintenance of financial records, driving month-end and year-end close processes, preparing reconciliations and financial reports, ensuring compliance, and supporting audits and process improvements. The Senior Accountant provides timely, reliable financial information to strengthen financial operations and decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of RTV’s Canadian financial transactions, including accounts payable, general ledger entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Verify the completeness and accuracy of supporting documentation for payments on a weekly basis.
- Update and maintain RTV’s finance systems with accurate and timely financial data.
- Ensure proper filing, maintenance, and accessibility of financial records and supporting documentation for audit and reference purposes.
- Own assigned areas of the month-end and year-end close for Canadian operations, including reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules, delivered to agreed deadlines.
- Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reports, and related management reporting.
- Prepare tax, regulatory, and statutory filings applicable to Canadian operations.
- Analyze financial data to identify variances, trends, risks, and opportunities for improved financial controls and decision-making.
- Ensure adherence to RTV financial policies and procedures.
- Report any suspected non-compliance or financial irregularities to Finance Leadership.
- Identify and implement improvements to financial processes, efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
- Support internal and external audit processes as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of four years of relevant experience in accounting, finance, or financial operations.
- Experience with Sage or a comparable ERP.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-finance staff.
