About the Role
The Auburn YMCA is seeking an Assistant Director for Health and Wellness Programs to lead the team and oversee expanding programs and new spaces, including a newly renovated fitness center with cutting-edge equipment, an E-Gym, and a Functional Training Space.
Responsibilities
- Manages group fitness and wellness programs.
- Assists in hiring, scheduling, and evaluating all fitness and wellness staff.
- Researches new fitness trends and implements various fitness programs.
- Supervises and trains wellness floor staff to provide safe and effective orientations.
- Evaluates and reports on equipment functionality.
- Assists in evaluating program offerings to improve participation.
- Pursues training, learning, certifications, and educational opportunities.
- Provides personal training to clients (one-on-one or small group).
- Promotes facilities and programs using various media, including digital marketing, social media, brochures, flyers, and press releases.
- Assists in coordinating Wellness department events and activities, occasionally requiring evening and weekend work.
- Is on-call as needed and may travel to other worksites or training classes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in Health and Wellness, Exercise Science, Kinesiology or Health Science; working toward a degree is also considered.
- At least one year of experience in a fitness facility.
- Experience in implementing wellness programs is welcomed.
- Thorough knowledge of wellness programs, exercise physiology, exercise prescription, fitness testing and evaluation.
- Must have a nationally accredited recognized personal training certification required (have up to 60 days if not currently certified).
- Possess strong relationship building, communication and organizational skills.
- CPR/FIRST AID required within 30 days.
- Must maintain a driver’s license free from substance related infractions.
- Regularly required to communicate with members, staff and program participants.
- Frequently required to stand for extended periods, walk around the facility and climb 4 flights of stairs.
- Occasionally required to transfer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Direct fitness classes requiring repetitive motion including frequent reaching, lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling and occasionally crouching, crawling, balancing and climbing.
- Occasionally required to sit for extended periods to work on a computer.
- Specific visual acuity includes the ability to distinguish colors, work on a computer, read calibrations on equipment and recognize program participants up to 80 feet away.
