About the Role

The Bus Driver is responsible for transporting students safely over scheduled routes to and from school sites, ensuring the safety of all passengers, including special education students, and maintaining the assigned bus in safe operating condition.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transports students
  • Drives a school bus safely in accordance with time schedules, transporting students to and from their homes, school sites, and on field trips
  • Maintains order and proper discipline of passengers, resolving disputes, and documenting/reporting severe disciplinary cases
  • Conducts established safety and operational inspection of assigned vehicle daily
  • Oversees the loading and unloading of students, releasing students to authorized individuals, and ensuring safety belts are fastened
  • Maintains records and reports including mileage, routing, maintenance, and time schedules
  • Notifies appropriate individuals of any delays in scheduled route
  • Ensures proper credentials (CDL, Medical Card, & Region One) are updated according to DOT and IDEA policy
  • Understands and takes directions and feedback well
  • Maintains open communication with campus managers
  • Accepts negative and positive feedback
  • Self-reflects on own performance to improve the operation
  • Manages multiple tasks by prioritizing work
  • Adapts to changing circumstances while performing various tasks
  • Handles various tasks simultaneously within established time constraints
  • Works on an open calendar
  • Works evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Works a minimum of 32 hours per week

Requirements

  • Experience in the operation of large passenger vehicles or equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Ability to manage student behavior
  • Must be over 21 years old
  • Pass alcohol and drug tests
  • Undergoes DOT Physical Examination
