About the Role
The Museum of Modern Art is seeking twelve Temporary Program Assistants to support Learning and Engagement programming, including the annual Family Festival, Artist Parties, and Family Saturdays.
Responsibilities
- Attend relevant preparation meetings and trainings.
- Familiarize with general Museum layout, exhibition program, and Learning and Engagement programs.
- Greet program participants, assist with check-in, distribute gallery activity or workshop supplies, and support wayfinding and group management during programs.
- Ensure smooth visitor flow by proactively guiding visitors and managing queues and activity capacity limits.
- Proactively and warmly welcome guests.
- Resolve general complaints from guests and members on site.
- Answer general questions about the Museum and its programming.
- Assist with setup and cleanup before and after programs.
- Assist with any pre-program prep as needed.
- Help maintain organization, cleanliness, and preparedness with supplies and relevant materials at all activity posts.
- Conduct in-person research on Museum visitors through interviews and observational studies to collect data on visitor experience.
- Perform any duties reasonably related to the functions described.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience interacting with the general public in a customer service environment.
- Previous experience interacting with families and youth audiences preferred.
- Proficiency with languages in addition to English helpful.
- Proficiency with using Google workspace.
- Highly organized self-starter with the ability to juggle multiple tasks.
- Exceptional customer service skills and de-escalation experience.
- Interest in arts and experience with artmaking and artmaking materials preferred, but not required.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must occasionally stand for long periods of time.
- Must work in a public environment with face-to-face contact with the public.
- Availability and ability to commit to an irregular schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Must be available full-time September 16-18, 2026 and February 13-17, 2027.
- Hours not guaranteed.
- Offer of employment contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check due to MoMA’s Protection of Minors policy.
