About the Role
The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education (CBVRCE) is seeking to fill Teacher Assistant positions to support approximately 12,000 students in 38 schools. Responsibilities
- Assist students with feeding, toileting needs, and personal hygiene.
- Administer medication and carry out medical procedures under the direction of the school principal.
- Assist students with mobility, including lifting, positioning, and supporting them as outlined in their Individualized Program Plan.
- Supervise students to ensure a safe environment.
- Assist students in the operation of support equipment.
- Assist students in dressing and undressing.
- Promote student emotional growth, well-being, and independence.
- Encourage the development of student dignity and self-esteem.
- Facilitate positive interactions among all students.
- Motivate students and encourage participation.
- Assist in the implementation of behavior management plans.
- Assist students in following programs, strategies, exercises, and materials developed by the teacher.
- Assist teachers in preparing materials.
- Provide feedback to the supervising teacher on observations of students.
- Accompany students to and from community work placements and provide support.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements

- Teacher Assistant/Educational Support Diploma or Certificate from a recognized educational institution; or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Other relevant diplomas, such as Disability Support/Services, Human Services, Residential Care Worker, and Continuing Care Assistant in combination with relevant experience may be considered.
- Valid Standard First Aid.
- Acceptable Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Checks.
- Demonstrated ability to perform physical requirements of the positions.
- Reliable, dependable, and conscientious.
- Acceptable record of attendance in previous employment.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with and develop a positive rapport with children and youth.
- Demonstrated awareness of, and respect and sensitivity for, diverse strengths and needs of children and youth with special needs and exceptionalities.
- Knowledge of, and ability to perform, basic health, hygiene, and safety requirements for a variety of individual student needs.
- Exceptional teamwork, communication, conflict management, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to work well under pressure and maintain professional demeanor in challenging situations.

- 10 Month (September to June)

Salary/Compensations
- $24.99 to $29.40 per hour (depending on qualifications)
