About the Role

Supervises recycling and post-collection activities at the recycling center, overseeing a team to ensure efficient operations. Works with the General Manager to implement initiatives, drive functional excellence, and achieve budget goals. Ensures adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, focusing on safety, customer experience, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Removes unsafe conditions and situations from the recycling center and related activities.
  • Partners with maintenance to ensure equipment is in working order and meets safety standards.
  • Oversees safety and accident prevention programs to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
  • Implements and maintains an effective loss control and safety program.
  • Engages employees in safety culture through personal commitment and outreach.
  • Provides service that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Interacts with customers to resolve issues and improve the customer experience.
  • Serves as a positive company representative to drive customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Resolves unusual service requests, equipment breakdowns, and schedule changes with timely communication.
  • Establishes productivity goals, ensures adherence to operating standards, and manages labor hours and disposal expenses.
  • Executes operational plans to achieve or exceed budgeted goals.
  • Builds and develops team talent, understands career goals, and provides coaching for advancement.
  • Creates a collaborative and communicative team environment to drive employee engagement.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License, Class “G” or DZ is an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 - 4 years of experience in a related field.
  • Practical experience in leading and developing front-line staff.
  • Experience setting and achieving performance goals.
  • Experience navigating complex challenges through strong analytical and decision-making skills.

Skills

  • Waste or service industry knowledge.
  • Ability to address conflicts or disputes proactively and resolve issues constructively.
  • Ability to direct large staff.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge in the operation of transfer sites and waste/recycling trucks.
  • Collaborative; builds and works with teams.
  • Creative thinker who challenges conventional solutions.
  • Working knowledge of applicable Provincial, Federal, and Municipal laws.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with customers and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
