About the Role

The Activity Aide plays a pivotal role in enriching the lives of residents by assisting with the facilitation of different activities, bringing joy and fun to residents and brightening their day.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and evaluate individual and group activation programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Set up and clean activity areas and transport residents to and from programs.
  • Monitor resident behavior and condition during programs and report significant changes to the Supervisor and nursing staff.
  • Maintain program and resident records according to department policy.
  • Communicate resident participation to registered staff.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.

Requirements

  • A negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of the start date.
  • Completion of a TB Skin test.
  • Must provide notice of accommodation needs for the recruitment process to the hiring manager upon scheduling of an interview.

Skills

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-on-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both well and cognitively impaired individuals.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate new ideas, resident programs, and volunteer initiatives.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population, especially those with cognitive impairments.

  • Temporary Full Time

Education Level

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university or enrolled in same.
  • If enrolled, must complete program within 3 years of hire date.

Salary/Compensations

  • $22.25/hour
