About the Role
The Support Living Specialist collaborates with community agencies to enhance Supported Living Services and outcomes for individuals with developmental disabilities. This role involves overseeing housing initiatives, providing guidance to internal teams and external organizations, and ensuring appropriate housing options for supported individuals and their families.
Responsibilities
- Design, coordinate, and implement a specialized system of supported living options and an evaluation process for ongoing program monitoring.
- Act as a liaison to local providers of supported living services and the Department of Developmental Services.
- Create cost comparison spreadsheets.
- Analyze and apply existing and proposed statutes and regulations.
- Draft revisions to Agency policies and guidelines and work with DDS to implement them.
- Participate in the RFP process for potential new housing providers.
- Implement communication strategies to promote and educate employees and the community about supported living services initiatives.
- Facilitate communication to solve problems and plan proactive solutions.
- Coordinate supported living services with various community partners.
- Set priorities, organize workload, manage relevant contracts, and meet deadlines.
- Share related information and articles with staff and stakeholders.
- Draft written comments on proposed regulations.
- Advise others on trends occurring within Supported Living Services (SLS).
- Develop new housing resources.
- Negotiate rates.
- Recruit, screen, evaluate, and contract with vendors.
- Establish start-up budgeting and billing procedures.
- Present periodic updates to the Board of Directors and Senior Management on housing initiatives.
- Attend Board, Service Provider, and Individual Supported meetings as needed.
- Coordinate with case management and administration staff regarding authorization and changes to supported living services.
- Provide training to new employees and consult with staff regarding housing options.
- Contribute to Individual Service Plans for individuals participating in housing services.
- Respond to questions related to SLS regulations and interpretation.
- Prepare and send required reports related to Supported Living Services.
- May act as a witness in appeals.
- Conduct New Hire and other relevant training for staff and the community.
- Provide updates on related Performance Contract Measures.
- Serve as liaison to community organizations including local government housing departments, non-profit housing development corporations, and families/consumer groups.
- Present supported living services information to individuals supported, families, service providers, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in special projects and assist with additional duties as assigned.
- Maintain client information confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and the California Lanterman Act.
Requirements
- 2+ years in social services.
- Experience in interpretation of policies, procedures, legislation, and regulations pertaining to specific programs, including Regional Center Systems and Lanterman Developmental Disabilities Services Act desired.
