About the Role

The Staff Physician is responsible for the medical care of participants enrolled in the On Lok program, working under the administrative supervision of the Supervising Physician.

Responsibilities

• Obtain a complete history and perform a thorough physical examination on all prospective clients and new enrollees.
• Develop a treatment program in cooperation with the multidisciplinary Intake and Assessment Team for each new enrollee.
• Record periodic medical changes and perform an interval physical examination on all participants every six months.
• Serve as the primary care physician, examining and treating episodic acute illnesses in various settings.
• Advise on case management and examine patients with the Nurse Practitioner upon request.
• Work in close collaboration with the Clinic Nursing Staff.
• Request and authorize consultation from On Lok's panel of medical and surgical consultants when needed.
• Collaborate with in-house medical specialists including the Dentist, Podiatrist, Audiologist and Speech Therapist.
• Serve as the primary physician or consult with the Hospitalist for participants in the acute care hospital.
• Provide primary care for participants residing in the nursing home, examining them at least monthly.
• Provide on-call coverage for direct patient care on a rotational basis.
• Fulfill all administrative duties, including proper record keeping and attendance at staff meetings.
• Provide in-service training as needed.
• Interpret the On Lok program to interested groups and individuals.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• M.D. degree and current, valid license to practice medicine and surgery in California.
• Formal training in Internal Medicine or Family Practice; Board eligible or Board Certified.
• Subspecialty training or minimum one-year experience working with the elderly or frail population.
• Current, valid Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
• Willingness to work within a multidisciplinary team.
• Sensitivity to the health beliefs and needs of a multi-ethnic aged population.
• Good communication and leadership skills.
• Bilingual ability may be required for specific assignments.
