About the Role

The Supervising Pharmacist provides supervision for pharmaceutical services within the San Francisco Department of Public Health to assure quality patient care, appropriate drug therapy, and compliance with all applicable regulations. This role involves managing personnel, designing and evaluating pharmaceutical services, and assisting with departmental policies and budget development.

Responsibilities

• Manages, supervises, and schedules assigned personnel, including completing performance appraisals, and carrying out appropriate disciplinary actions as needed.
• Designs, implements, and evaluates pharmaceutical services.
• Continuously interprets and assists in the development and implementation of departmental rules, regulations, and policies.
• Communicates with physicians, nurses, and other health-care professionals, as well as the general public.
• Prepares and maintains reports, memoranda, and records.
• Assists in managerial decisions including developing the budget.
• Develops and trains staff to support and enhance professional development.
• Performs professional pharmacist duties as needed.
• Procures pharmaceuticals and supplies and maintains inventory.

Requirements

• Requires at least two (2) years (equivalent to 4,000 hours) of experience as a licensed pharmacist in a hospital pharmacy; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Requires possession of a valid Registered Pharmacist license issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
• One (1) year of recent and verifiable inpatient pharmacy experience obtained within the last five years.

Skills

• Knowledge of current methods and procedures of pharmacies and contemporary pharmacy practice
• Knowledge of Federal, State and local regulations as related to Pharmacy
• Ability to supervise and monitor pharmacy staff and its functions and to delegate responsibilities appropriately
• Ability to develop, plan, schedule, coordinate and evaluate assigned personnel
• Ability to make decisions, problem solve, prioritize activities, use initiative and act independently
• Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records
• Ability to teach, train, and orient individuals in pharmacy operations and procedures, and drug therapy
• Ability to interact effectively with a diverse customer base
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing
• Ability to communicate effectively orally
