About the Role

Market analysts own Base’s point of view on energy markets and products, building and maintaining models to identify value and defending those opinions before capital is committed or deals are signed. This role focuses on broad market analysis, combining data science with energy market fluency to provide clear recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Model coincident peak (CP) timing and its year-over-year evolution in markets like PJM and ERCOT, benchmarking against commercial forecasts.
• Model the impact of CP reform in ERCOT and its implications for Base's portfolio.
• Compile polished reports on operational performance for internal teams and external stakeholders, including presentations at ISOs.
• Determine optimal deployment timing and locations for 4-hour battery solutions, identifying areas where solar absence is a constraint.
• Maintain a well-vetted opinion on any energy market or product Base is considering entering.

Requirements

• Fluency in data science and data visualization, selecting appropriate analytical approaches for different data types and translating complex behavior into clear business-driving charts.
• Comfort with operational tools such as SQL and Grafana for fleet telemetry analysis.
• Deep understanding of wholesale energy market operations (e.g., ERCOT), including real-time arbitrage, ancillary services, and grid-service control loops.
• Working knowledge of unit commitment, economic dispatch, and production cost modeling.
