About the Role
The Tax Investigations team is seeking a Senior Manager to support its growth. This role involves delivering quality advice to a varied portfolio of clients, leading HMRC enquiry and disclosure projects, and providing specialist knowledge to other KPMG teams, including the tax litigation team.
Responsibilities
- Manage and strategize complex HMRC enquiries or disclosures for a client portfolio, including COP8/9, leading client and HMRC relationships.
- Prepare investigation and disclosure reports, including computational aspects, for HMRC submission, delegating tasks to junior staff.
- Lead the preparation of agendas and plans for internal case management and HMRC meetings.
- Apply knowledge of the statutory tax administration framework and HMRC compliance guidance, including the Litigation and Settlement Strategy (LSS).
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on tax enquiry and disclosure matters, including discovery assessments, information requests, and penalty matters.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal KPMG teams, identifying new work opportunities.
- Support Private Client teams by attending marketing events and understanding the firm's service lines.
- Maintain specialist knowledge and upskill the national Private Client team on new HMRC initiatives and tax rule changes.
- Assist in team management, including coaching and developing team members.
- Control assignment finances through effective WIP management and billing controls.
Requirements
- University degree.
- CTA/ACA/ACCA qualified (or overseas equivalent), or relevant work experience and internal tax qualifications within HM Revenue & Customs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Skills
- Excellent technical specialist knowledge and expertise in tax disputes and HMRC enquiry issues.
- Extensive post-qualification experience in enquiry scenarios, voluntary disclosures, and Tax Administration matters.
- Deep experience in case management of multi-stream and complex enquiries.
- Strong analytical mindset.
- Excellent report drafting skills.
- High level of drive, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
- Strong team ethic and ability to grow resources and invest in the team.
- Solid commercial awareness and understanding of diverse tax matters.
