About the Role

The Environmental Services Assistant is responsible for the year-round delivery of high-quality cleaning services in suites, semi-suites, and common areas. This role also involves hotel-style cleaning during summer months and participation in building-wide turnovers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and scrubbing shared areas and washrooms.
  • Identify and report damages and other potential concerns within units to the Coordinator.
  • Develop positive working relationships with students and engage them in preparing rooms for cleaning.
  • Alert management or appropriate staff of atypical behaviors in students or guests.
  • Work with the Coordinator to develop programs to improve student participation in cleaning.
  • Participate in meetings to stay updated on cleaning techniques and maintain cleaning standards.
  • Perform deep cleaning of vacant rooms.
  • Prepare dirty linen for pick-up and unpack clean linen deliveries.
  • Assist with move-in/move-out inspections.
  • Clean common areas, including lounges, studies, and hallways, especially during periods of short staffing or extra cleaning needs.
  • Report any damages or issues in common areas to the Coordinator.
  • Assist with assessing common area cleaning requirements.
  • Complete inventory of linens and supplies.
  • Deliver hotel-style services, primarily during summer months, including vacuuming, dusting, wiping furniture, making beds, changing linens and towels, and removing garbage.
  • Provide customer service by giving students or guests directions and information.
  • Assist in training other staff in cleaning techniques and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year experience in high-volume cleaning in a hotel, long-term care, college/university residence, or other living environment.
  • Ability to work occasional shifts at the North Campus based on operational needs.
