Responsibilities
- Teaches a full time load of 5 classes
- Guides a daily Advisory
- Keeps accurate grades using Standard Based Grading
- Communicates with students and families regarding feedback and progress on academic learning
- Uses various assessment strategies consistent with course content and objectives
- Provides reports on student progress and maintains open communication
- Differentiates instruction and assessment to meet diverse student needs
- Identifies students needing additional academic assistance and refers them appropriately
- Provides opportunities for student expression using spoken, written, and electronic forms of communication
- Provides a safe learning environment for intellectual risk-taking
- Uses learning resources and technology to enhance lessons
- Creates a respectful environment that fosters a global mindset
- Demonstrates effective organizational skills, including lesson planning, unit implementation, differentiation, and assessment design
- Exercises classroom management with fair and consistent standards
- Utilizes learning management and student information systems
- Presents a positive role model supporting the school's mission
- Grows professionally through educational opportunities, professional publications, and organizations
- Demonstrates flexibility and a positive attitude toward new challenges
- Participates in school-wide events and after-school functions
- Completes a minimum of two assigned duties
- Attends and participates in required faculty and staff meetings
- Completes responsibilities as assigned by Division Head or supervisor
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in a related field
- Experience teaching an IB Social Studies preferred
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in a high-performing school
- Commitment to the school’s mission, core values, and inclusion statement
- Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction within the appropriate content area and/or grade level
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills
- Effective organizational skills including lesson planning, unit implementation, differentiation, and assessment design
- Ability to monitor student progress and report information in a timely manner
- Ability to manage, delegate, and monitor tasks
- Ability to mentor and coach students, acting as a student achievement advocate and advisor
- Highly developed collaborative skills and the ability to work well with others
