About the Role

Performs, supervises, and coordinates laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics of materials for quality production and environmental control.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all routine analysis and results reporting with minimal supervision after training.
  • Set-up, adjust, and operate laboratory equipment including Arc-Spark Emission Spectrometer, ICP Spectrometer, XRF Analyzer, Induction Furnace, pH meter, and analytical balance.
  • Troubleshoot minor instrument and equipment errors.
  • Prepare chemical solutions using proper measuring techniques.
  • Prepare and process samples for testing.
  • Troubleshoot minor in-process production problems.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative tests on various materials using spectrographic or chromatographic equipment.
  • Test production samples to verify conformity to specifications and record results.
  • Record finished product testing results into the corporate SAP computer system.
  • Record test results on standardized forms and prepare test reports using MS Excel.
  • Issue instructions for in-process treatments to adjust chemical composition.
  • Test environmental samples to determine the disposition of wastes/effluents.
  • Understand shipping requirements and notify Laboratory Supervisor of deficiencies.
  • Comply with all environmental, health, safety, quality systems, and housekeeping programs.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or authorized by laboratory management.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Follow written standard work instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform environmental sample analysis such as TCLP and test water samples for trace metals and pH.
  • Establish formulations required to meet material specifications and provide instructions.
  • Assist in covering additional shifts at critical times.

Requirements

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • 1-2 years of equivalent experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Completion of college basic chemistry and college algebra courses, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Meet proficiency criteria.
  • 12+ credit hours of college chemistry courses, or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ credit hours of college math courses, or equivalent experience.
