About the Role
The Retail Banking Directorate oversees supervision and policy for UK retail banking and mortgages, driving better outcomes for consumers through firm-specific, sector-wide, and event-driven work, with a clear focus on fairness, affordability, and consumer protection.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver key policy projects using first-rate analysis and project management skills
- Develop effective working relationships across the FCA and represent the FCA externally with government departments like HM Treasury, industry participants, trade bodies and other regulators
- Write and present policy proposals, supported by data and analysis, to help decision makers in the FCA make decisions
- Deliver public consultations on changes to FCA rules or guidance
- Provide technical and policy advice on the application of the existing rules and guidance
- Research and analyse industry developments (e.g. new products and business models) and advise on their regulatory treatment
- Provide advice and briefing about policy issues to FCA senior management and colleagues
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience of policymaking and solving complex problems by analysing information or issues, methodically interpreting data and reaching robust conclusions
- Prior experience of delivery and project management skills
- An ability to identify and manage key stakeholders, building rapport and constructive relationships, and demonstrating political awareness
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills, able to explain complex issues succinctly and with clarity
- Well-developed organisational skills, delivering multiple tasks with tight deadlines
- An ability to contribute effectively, to take a collaborative and responsive to different situations approach, using well-reasoned arguments and challenge where appropriate

- National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £53,800 to £71,600
- London £59,200 to £78,800 per annum
