About the Role

The Peer Support Worker utilizes personal lived experience with mental health and/or addiction to assist others in their recovery process. This role involves navigating support systems, facilitating groups, and building positive relationships to help clients achieve stability and independence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide community-based support by accompanying clients to appointments and accessing local resources.
  • Build supportive relationships offering guidance, emotional support, and assistance with goal setting.
  • Promote client safety, wellness, and recovery through positive role modeling.
  • Facilitate and co-facilitate recovery-focused groups and drop-in programs.
  • Collaborate with program staff, caseworkers, and community partners for coordinated care.
  • Assist with referrals and maintain knowledge of community resources.
  • Contribute to program development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Attend training, team meetings, and supervision sessions.
  • Support program operations including space maintenance and activity setup.

Requirements

  • Lived experience with mental health and/or addiction and a process of recovery.
  • Completion of Peer Support Training or a related certification.
  • Knowledge of mental health and addiction service systems and community supports.
  • Experience in peer support counseling and recovery principles.
  • Proficiency in computers and standard workplace software.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs and assist with daily living activities.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 50lbs.
  • Satisfactory vulnerable sector check (VSC).
