About the Role
The Virtual Assistant team is redefining how N26 customers interact with their bank, investing in Generative AI to rethink the banking ecosystem. This role is for a Mid-Level AI Engineer focused on building the next generation of intelligent, multi-channel experiences, bridging complex banking needs with human-like automation using LLMs, RAG, and autonomous agents. The core mission is fast, reliable delivery of AI/ML models and intelligent agents into product infrastructure, with a focus on scalability, observability, and speed.
Responsibilities
- Drive Fast Time-to-Market (TTM) by collaborating with stakeholders to iterate quickly on prototypes and transition validated models into production.
- Productionize AI/LLM Prototypes by refactoring, deploying, and maintaining robust AI services in a high-traffic production environment.
- Build Observability and Measurement Systems by implementing comprehensive solutions for deployed AI features and measuring output quality.
- Architect for Reliability and Scale by designing and implementing technical architecture, data pipelines, and orchestration systems for AI services.
- Design and Deploy Custom AI Services by leveraging foundational models and building surrounding application logic and custom components.
- Apply Advanced AI Techniques such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Model Context Protocol (MCP), Agent-to-Agent (A2A) flows, and fine-tuning.
- Contribute to Discovery by identifying and recommending new AI use cases based on system constraints and production feasibility.
Requirements
- Proven experience building, deploying, and maintaining machine learning or LLM-based applications in a production environment.
- Strong blend of experience across Backend Engineering (Python, Kotlin), Applied AI Engineering & MLOps (LLM frameworks, vector databases, MLOps tooling, prompt engineering, RAG), and Data Engineering (data pipelines, feature stores, data quality).
- Solid understanding and practical knowledge of cloud environments (AWS) and deploying scalable containerized services (Kubernetes, Docker).
- Experience with model/LLM serving platforms (e.g., SageMaker, Bedrock, Vertex AI) is highly desirable.
- A passion for moving fast and achieving tangible business outcomes.
- A passion for knowledge transfer and feedback within a collaborative team.
