About the Role

Guardian Rail is a leading freight rail services and transportation company seeking Repair Technicians to safely inspect and repair railcars, ensuring mechanical and operational integrity. This role involves hands-on work in outdoor conditions and requires a strong safety and quality mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Repair various types of railcars and/or tank cars.
  • Inspect and repair railcars to industry and customer specifications.
  • Perform railcar repairs in compliance with FRA and AAR interchange rules.
  • Conduct pre and post inspection of all assigned railcars.
  • Comply fully with all safety protocols, including in-house and OSHA rules.
  • Comply fully with the Company's quality program.
  • Keep work area clean and orderly.
  • Follow written and verbal directions.
  • Work effectively in a team environment.
  • Understand railcar components and shop work orders.
  • Assist in disassembly of damaged railcars.
  • Perform repairs including basic mechanics, grinding, and painting.
  • Set up and operate various hand and power tools, including welding and cutting equipment.
  • Perform interior railcar cleaning.
  • Complete documented training to operate equipment such as forklifts and man-lifts.

Requirements

  • High-school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Prior experience as a Carman or Railcar Repair Technician highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and blueprints.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge and experience with hand & power tools, including heavier air and electric powered tools and cutting torches.
  • Enjoy outdoor, physical, hands-on work with frequent standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
  • Certified E7018 welder preferred.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Speak and communicate effectively.
  • Basic math skills and ability to understand simple mathematical concepts.
  • Reasoning ability to solve practical problems.
  • Ability to fully pass the fitness-for-duty examination, pre-employment physical, and pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screenings.
  • Must be able to work in a confined space.
  • Required to use personal protective equipment as environmental conditions dictate.
