About the Role

The Medical Assistant - NY supports the delivery of urological services, performs work as required, and functions as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team. This position performs routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep medical offices running smoothly and collaborates with staff to achieve effective patient care delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various administrative and clinical duties under the direction of their assigned direct supervisor.
  • Confer with physicians, nursing, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule appointments.
  • Greet and prepare patients.
  • Measure and record vital signs.
  • Record patient interview and history.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine screening tests.
  • Assist physicians with exams.
  • Perform phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens.
  • Perform basic lab tests.
  • Perform EKGs after required training.
  • Perform CPR skills when necessary if BLS Certified.
  • Prepare accurate, legal, and ethical documentation.
  • Open office in the morning and close in the afternoon.
  • Assist in maintaining patient logs for lab requests, CT scans, and other treatment orders.
  • Ensure the back office has good flow, keeps rooms full, and assists with room turnover.
  • Perform new patient work-up, including x-rays, vitals, and new patient packet explanation.
  • Add medical history for all new patients and update established patients’ history accurately.
  • Perform accurate and complete room set-up for physician.
  • Ensure all patients' medication is updated before physician visit.
  • Handle set-up for in-office surgical procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate consent form is completed correctly, avoiding excessive medical abbreviations.
  • Scribe as assigned per physician office flow.
  • Prepare for seeing patients the following day, including patient confirmation.
  • Complete patient medical record requests.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Ensure proper hand-off of responsibilities.
  • Meet established attendance criteria and start work promptly.
  • Be punctual and dependable for assigned/confirmed shifts.
  • Respect and acknowledge the organization's commitment to cultural diversity.
  • Consistently demonstrate good use of time and resources.
  • Ensure all medical records are accurate and complete.
  • Adhere to and support compliance and accreditation efforts, including OSHA, HIPAA & CMS guidelines.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to high standards of ethical conduct and comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Report any suspected concerns and/or violations to a supervisor and/or the Compliance Department.
  • Complete Annual Compliance Training.

Requirements

  • Certification or Registration preferred.
  • Ability to perform well in stressful situations.
  • Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR, Practice Management Solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Project Management.
  • Vendor relations (for those MA’s that are required to order office and clinical supplies).
  • Database management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Skill in using computer programs and applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Delivers exceptional patient service throughout all interactions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience (based on State regulation requirements).
  • 6 months experience working within a physician’s office desired.
  • Urology experience desired.
  • Minimal travel required.
  • Ability to carry 1-25 lbs. frequently.
  • Ability to carry 26-50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to push/pull 1-25 lbs. seldom.
  • Ability to push/pull 100+ lbs. seldom.
  • Ability to lift 1-25 lbs. from floor to chest occasionally.
  • Ability to lift 26-50 lbs. from floor to chest seldom.
