About the Role

The Assistant Commissioning Manager supports the planning, execution, and oversight of testing and commissioning activities for SOLV Energy’s High Voltage (HV), Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Photovoltaic (PV) projects. This role ensures systems are tested and commissioned according to requirements and safety standards, manages commissioning teams, and coordinates with stakeholders for a seamless transition. This position is key to delivering high-quality, reliable renewable energy assets.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the project commissioning team, providing guidance, training, and support.
  • Report daily to the Commissioning Manager on project status.
  • Review technical, contractual, and regulatory requirements for commissioning.
  • Assist with the development of project milestone and deliverables lists, commissioning plans, and procedures.
  • Communicate with OEM suppliers regarding equipment-specific testing and commissioning.
  • Coordinate with project teams (engineering, construction, quality assurance) for alignment.
  • Assist with the development and weekly updates of integrated P6 testing and commissioning schedules.
  • Assist with the development of the commissioning resource plan.
  • Review initial energization procedures and assist with switching activities.
  • Perform MVAC collection circuits and Aux Power circuits switching activities during Hot Commissioning.
  • Develop switching plans and LOTO as required.
  • Identify, analyze, and recommend corrective actions for technical issues.
  • Support the development of standards and processes to improve business.
  • Manage pre-commissioning, cold, warm, and hot commissioning tests for all BESS, HV, or PV plant systems.
  • Ensure commissioning activities comply with industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
  • Prepare detailed daily commissioning reports, review test results, issues, and corrective actions.
  • Monitor project timelines and resources for successful project delivery.
  • Continuously improve commissioning processes by incorporating feedback and lessons learned.
  • Prepare and maintain Lessons Learned and equipment warranty tracking logs.
  • Establish and manage Safety Tagging, Lockout, Red Rope, and Work Permit Programs.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in testing and commissioning on utility scale electrical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, inverters, transformers, and electrical infrastructure.
  • Proven experience managing project teams and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.

Skills

  • Knowledge and commissioning of Utility scale solar, battery storage, and high voltage substations.
  • Knowledge and experience with HV and MV switching operations, and equipment grounding.
  • Knowledge and experience with the management and application of site lock-out / tag-out (LOTO) safety program procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience with substation protection and control (P&C) systems.
  • Knowledge of Fiber installation and test requirements.
  • SCADA system understanding, testing, and commissioning requirements.
  • DC systems architecture and testing requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in National Fire Protection Association/National Electrical Code (NFPA/NEC) standards, and IEEE/IES/API Standards.
  • NETA and IEEE standards related to utility scale solar generation.
  • Understands the commercial performance of power plants.
  • Working knowledge of NERC compliance standards along with ISO and TSO testing and operational requirements is highly beneficial.
  • Familiarity with DCS / SCADA control systems and methods for utility scale generation a plus.
  • Knowledge of microprocessor protective relay testing is a plus.
