About the Role

The Analyst, Financial Services & Systems provides overall financial support and analysis to maintain TRCA’s financial health, including preparing, validating, analyzing, and reviewing financial information and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provides analytical support, guidance, and advice regarding corporate financial performance, outcomes, insights, and implications to aid in optimal decision making.
  • Prepares consolidated financial information documents that are high quality, accurate, consistent, and timely.
  • Supports the monitoring, reporting, and evaluation of projects and programs regarding in-year expenditure and revenue variance compared to approved budgets.
  • Identifies, records, and monitors tangible capital assets in line with the Public Sector Accounting Standards framework.
  • Regularly analyzes and monitors the balance sheet, revenues, and expenses of the organization to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Executes assigned corporate finance, accounting, and year-end activities, including amortization, deferred revenue and AR reconciliation, and balance sheet accounts reconciliations.
  • Monitors the operating and capital levy allocation collection from TRCA’s partner municipalities.
  • Prepares financial reports and working papers for external audit purposes, including annual TRCA audits and other regulatory audit and review engagements.
  • Ensures that reports available in the system are current and presented meaningfully for users.
  • Ensures that core data, including project accounts, account codes, and user lists, are updated regularly and appropriately mapped.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Finance, Business Commerce, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant with CPA Ontario.
  • 4+ years of experience in financial analysis and systems administration.
  • Proficient in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and have a track record in supporting the implementation of significant corporate accounting initiatives.
  • Knowledge of financial systems and management controls.
  • Multi-year project financial management experience, including reporting and analysis of operating and capital budgets.
  • Advanced mathematical abilities (e.g., ratios, rates, percentages).
  • Able to comprehend written documentation and procedural guidelines.
  • Skilled in writing clear correspondence (concise, logical, grammatically correct).
  • Ability to use critical thinking to evaluate problems, gather information, understand causes, and identify best possible solutions.
  • Able to self-manage workload and prioritize tasks amidst fluctuating workloads and multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS Teams and SharePoint.
  • Advanced MS Excel capabilities for analysis and management of financial systems.
  • Successful incumbent(s) may be required to undergo a vulnerable sector screening and/or driver’s abstract check.
