About the Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will lead and coordinate a team, deliver maintenance, and carry out complex repairs on water and wastewater equipment, contributing to a more sustainable future.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate a team of mechanical engineers/fitters across multiple water and wastewater sites
  • Deliver planned and reactive mechanical maintenance on dewatering and associated equipment
  • Carry out complex repairs, modifications, overhauls and asset replacements (pumps, pipework, valves, ancillaries)
  • Provide day-to-day on-site supervision of employees and subcontractors, ensuring work is delivered safely and to plan
  • Act as the primary on-site point of contact for customers, coordinating activities with site teams and contractors
  • Work in line with CDM requirements, Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), and site rules
  • Complete permits to work, safety documentation, test reports, installation certificates and customer paperwork
  • Support standby cover, overtime and flexibility to work away from home when required

Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 (or recognised apprenticeship) in mechanical engineering maintenance
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites (predominantly Southern England)
  • Essential safety competencies: COMPEX, SSSTS, Confined Space, First Aid and IOSH
  • 5+ years’ experience in an industrial environment, with proven mechanical installation/maintenance/service capability
  • Experience leading teams and supervising subcontractors on site, with a “lead by example” approach
  • Background in asset replacement and maintaining equipment typically found on water/wastewater treatment plants (desirable)
  • Strong paperwork and compliance discipline (permits, reports, certificates) with a safety-first mindset
  • Desirable qualifications: Clean Water and/or SHEA Water, DSEAR awareness, PASMA, CSCS Gold Card
