About the Role

HDR is seeking Mechanical Engineers to support the delivery of technically challenging projects across their expanding Data Centre, Mission Critical and Building Engineering portfolio. This role is ideal for an engineer with consulting experience who enjoys hands-on design, solving complex technical challenges, and contributing to high-quality engineering outcomes throughout the full project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to mechanical design packages from concept through to construction delivery
  • Perform HVAC engineering calculations, system selection and design development
  • Prepare coordinated engineering documentation, specifications and technical reports
  • Support the delivery of compliant, high-quality mechanical building services solutions
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers and specialist consultants across multidisciplinary projects
  • Participate in design reviews and technical quality processes
  • Assist with site inspections, contractor queries and construction phase services
  • Coordinate effectively across disciplines to resolve design interfaces and challenges
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and technical excellence across the team

Requirements

  • Degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer
  • Typically 2-6 years' experience in a consulting engineering environment
  • Experience delivering mechanical building services design projects
  • Solid HVAC design and technical problem-solving capability
  • Experience preparing engineering reports, specifications and technical documentation
  • Understanding of Australian codes, standards and regulatory requirements, including NCC and AS1668
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • A proactive approach and commitment to technical excellence

Skills

  • Data Centre or Mission Critical project experience
  • Experience undertaking HVAC heat load calculations and system sizing
  • Experience with Revit, Navisworks or other design coordination platforms
  • Exposure to health, defence, education, industrial or commercial projects
  • Chartered (CPEng) status or a desire to work towards Chartership
