About the Role

The FIC Business Line Compliance Team provides guidance to Fixed Income business areas, identifies potential risks, and ensures adequate controls. This role is for a Business Line VP to provide local guidance, subject matter expertise, and decision-making for a major business area and a source of significant regulatory attention in Japan. The VP will report to the FIC Japan Compliance Head and be based on the Trading Floor full-time for proactive engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise in Fixed Income and listed derivatives.
  • Support the FIC Compliance Team in checking and challenging the Business on applicable laws, regulations, and Compliance-owned risks.
  • Identify and mitigate horizon risks in collaboration with the FIC Compliance Team and Business.
  • Collaborate with other Compliance Teams to identify and mitigate risks and issues early.
  • Ensure Compliance Training is effective, new regulatory requirements are identified and embedded, and regulatory inspections are proactive and effective.
  • Liaise with regional and global counterparts to ensure consistent implementation of requirements and awareness of local issues with regional/global impact.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of work experience in the financial industry as a Compliance officer.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret Japan FIC related regulations.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) to engage with the Business and other Internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with other Compliance teams.
  • JSDA Internal Control Manager Exam expected; other securities firm qualifications also preferred.

Skills

  • Fixed Income and/or listed product knowledge.
  • Understanding and application of FIEL and JSDA regulations relevant to Fixed Income and/or listed products.
  • Native Japanese language proficiency.
  • Business-level English proficiency (both written and verbal).
