About the Role
We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to own agentic retrieval and orchestration for LeapSpace, the core engine of the product. This is the most technical product role on LeapSpace, involving close collaboration with dedicated GenAI teams, an AI orchestration platform team, and production UI teams. The role focuses on leading the migration of the engine's next generation from a validated prototype into production, defining release increments, setting interim targets, and managing the engineering backlog. It also involves serving other LeapSpace squads by gathering their requirements, consolidating demand for shared platform capabilities, and anticipating future product roadmap needs. The role includes expanding LeapSpace's capabilities through the engine by growing its tools and skills, and consolidating user tasks and personas. You will report to the VP of Product Management and work closely with the Senior Director of Product Management and Strategy for LeapSpace, with an expectation to stay close to the technology, understand AI behavior and evaluation, and validate concepts through prototyping. The ideal candidate demonstrates genuine curiosity, follows new ideas, and brings informed opinions to decisions.
Responsibilities
- Own the product strategy, vision, and roadmap for agentic retrieval and orchestration.
- Make sequencing calls that span teams and carry them across involved teams.
- Lead the migration of new engine capabilities from prototype to production.
- Translate validated prototype behavior into engineering-ready work with clear acceptance criteria and a technical approach.
- Keep teams that build on the engine informed ahead of change.
- Support other squads with their agentic requirements and identify common needs for platform capabilities.
- Anticipate demand on the agentic system from the product roadmap.
- Expand LeapSpace's surface area through the engine, growing its tools and skills.
- Collaborate with partner teams across Elsevier on capabilities that span products.
Requirements
- 10+ years building and shipping complex AI or data-intensive products, including sustained ownership of strategy, trade-offs, discovery, and delivery.
- At least three consecutive years at one employer.
- Deep expertise in generative AI products, including retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, and how they are evaluated.
- Proven ability to independently drive product strategy and execution across multiple engineering organizations and external dependencies.
- Strong go-to-market experience.
- Skilled at driving hypothesis-driven product evaluation, including A/B testing and experimentation frameworks.
- Comfortable with AI coding tools and rapid prototyping; able to build proofs of concept and validate ideas alongside engineering and data science teams.
- Technically fluent, with sound architectural judgment.
- Able to reason about system boundaries and trade-offs, contribute substantively to architecture discussions, and engage credibly with architects, AI researchers, engineers, and platform teams.
