We’re looking for an arts and culture correspondent to be at the forefront of the cultural conversation. You’ll generate exclusives, break major stories, identify the trends everyone will be talking about, and produce ambitious features spanning the full breadth of arts and culture. From interviewing the artists shaping the moment to investigating the forces transforming the creative industries, you’ll deliver original journalism that informs, surprises and sets the agenda.
Responsibilities
- Write news, features, liveblogs, interviews, background and other material to ensure that important arts stories are covered
- Break exclusive arts news stories
- Check stories for accuracy and legal compliance
- Source interviews and stories
- Monitor a range of sources and diaries for breaking/developing/upcoming stories
- Participate and shape thinking on the subject across the newsroom, spotting the broader social, cultural and political trends as well as being confident in analysing the significance and direction of the arts and culture specialism
- Contribute reporting for the Guardian’s range of multimedia formats, including social media, podcasts and video
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience of working as a journalist, including arts and culture coverage, online and in print, on a major news website, newspaper or magazine
- Knowledge/ awareness of the demands of digital platforms and print
- Proven experience of writing news and features
- Experienced in effectively utilising social media and multimedia
- Ideally, you’ll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role, seeking out underreported parts of the arts and culture landscape in all their diversity
