About the Role

We are seeking an individual with direct experience in the practical application of robotic grinding and finishing, specifically in production environments. This role involves shaping the design and implementation of robotic cells, standardizing tooling, and solving complex finishing challenges. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the process, not just the mechanics, and be comfortable working hands-on in production settings.

Responsibilities

  • Own the mechanical design of robotic grinding and finishing cells, including end effectors, tool changers, force compliance, fixturing, and dust and safety systems.
  • Solve real process problems related to material removal, surface finish targets, wheel and media selection, contact mechanics, and cycle time.
  • Test designs in production environments and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Set the standard for mechanical approaches to new parts and customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Direct experience with robotic grinding, deburring, or surface finishing.
  • Proven experience shipping or deeply working on systems that drive a tool against a part.
  • Solid understanding of abrasives, contact forces, material removal, and finish quality.
  • Proficiency with force/torque control, compliance, and sensing for finishing applications.
  • Ability to thrive in field and production floor environments, not solely in CAD.
  • Demonstrated judgment in determining when a design is sufficient for production.
