About the Role
This role sits at the intersection of legal expertise, product design, and applied AI, with a strong outward-facing component supporting how Matter Issues is explained, demonstrated, and trusted by clients. You will own the legal quality and depth of Matter Issues’ property law content, leading the development of risk content for property lawyers and conveyancers, and guiding how property law expertise is embedded across the product. You will work closely with product, engineering, and commercial teams to ensure Matter Issues is legally sound, practically useful and, delivers real value to property law clients. You will also work directly with clients, acting as their advocate within the product team by bringing their feedback, challenges and evolving needs into the product development process. You will be the go-to authority within the team on all things property law and conveyancing.
Responsibilities
- Lead the identification, structuring, and ongoing review of property law risk content, building the issue library that powers Matter Issues’ AI-driven analysis for property lawyers and conveyancers Australia wide
- Act as the legal quality gatekeeper for all property law content within Matter Issues, ensuring accuracy, currency, and alignment with real-world conveyancing practice
- Partner with product and engineering teams to translate property law concepts into features, workflows, and AI-driven assessments
- Test early product iterations and provide clear, practical feedback from a property lawyer's perspective
- Support the commercial success of Matter Issues by helping explain, demonstrate, and validate the product to property law clients through demos, webinars, and consultations
- Draft legal content, including: AI prompts, training materials, and practice guidance, specific to property law and conveyancing
- Stay current on legislative changes, case law, and regulatory updates relevant to property law and translate them into product improvements
- Attend property law conferences, CPD events, and networking sessions to build relationships and represent Matter Issues in the market
Requirements
- 5+ years' experience as a practising property lawyer in Australia, with demonstrated expertise in Australian property law and the ability to develop and lead content applicable across Australia
- A genuine interest in legal technology, AI, and product development
- Strong legal analysis and drafting skills, with the ability to explain complex property law issues clearly to non-lawyers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident presenting to groups
- Confidence engaging with clients and supporting product demonstrations
- Comfort working in multidisciplinary teams and influencing without formal authority
- Experience developing legal content, automated forms, or precedents related to property law is a real advantage
- Enjoys thinking deeply about how and why property law risks arise, not just how to run a transaction
- Likes shaping systems, frameworks, and tools that other lawyers rely on
- Is curious, precise, and comfortable operating in ambiguity
- Can balance legal accuracy with practical usability
- Wants to influence the future of how property law is practised at scale
