About the Role

The Student Support Leader at Gateway High School (GHS) supports students in graduating with the skills, habits, and knowledge necessary for academic and personal success in college and beyond. This role oversees Enrichment Programs and Leadership Programs to ensure students receive strong academic instruction, wrap-around services, and engaging extracurricular activities, while fostering youth voice and student leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with students weekly to discuss collaboration with school administration, support events related to a positive school climate, and address student and community issues.
  • Develop and facilitate curriculum focused on personal leadership development and social-emotional learning.
  • Manage the Study Café space, including student usage and maintenance.
  • Serve as the teacher on record for Independent Study students, including defining credit criteria, communicating progress, taking attendance, and evaluating students.
  • Support Independent Study students in prioritizing and completing work.
  • Provide CyberHigh support for students working on online credit recovery.
  • Act as a liaison between students and Gateway staff, managing student ideas and connecting with teachers.
  • Transport students in Club vehicles or on public transportation as needed, ensuring safety.
  • Manage accurate and timely collection of attendance and participation data.
  • Analyze attendance data for inconsistencies and cross-reference with goals.
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings.
  • Implement and track BGCSF program outcome measurements.
  • Complete any other duties deemed necessary by the BGCSF Site Director.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner.
  • Develop and maintain communication and positive relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Work in close collaboration with Gateway administrators and staff, parents, and BGCSF Citywide Services.
  • Provide requested program updates and progress reports.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to all program and information inquiries.
  • Promote program visibility within Gateway and BGCSF communities.
  • Actively participate in and support school-wide events.

Requirements

  • Equivalent work experience in youth development, education, or community settings, or a BA/BS degree.
  • Experience working with teenagers and young adults.
  • Valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and comfort driving a 12-passenger van.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly punctual, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet competing deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with strong record-keeping, data entry, and detail-oriented administrative skills.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to commit to a 32-hour work week following the school-year calendar.
  • BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university (preferred).
  • Direct teaching or professional facilitation experience with high school-aged youth (preferred).
  • Experience working with students from traditionally underserved communities (preferred).
  • Prior experience working with attendance and youth tracking database systems (preferred).
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for at least 2 hours consecutively.
  • Must be able to sit at a computer workstation for long periods of time.
  • Completion of LiveScan fingerprinting, a background check, and a tuberculosis (TB) evaluation or test prior to employment.
